Young people in Arnsberg and Meschede will be offered an opportunity to study art together at an inter-city art school being planned.

The cities of Arnsberg and Meschede are embarking on an exciting new venture, as they join forces to establish an inter-communal youth art school. The project, funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Förderkreis Kunst und Kultur Kloster Wedinghausen e.V., aims to provide a diverse and decentralised programme of cultural education for children and young people in the region.

The coordination of this ambitious project will be handled by the association "kunsthaus alte mühle e.V." from Schmallenberg. Kirsten Minkel, director of the cultural office of the city of Arnsberg, and Anne Wiegel from the department of generations, education, and leisure of the city of Meschede, will coordinate the project locally.

Interested artists from the cities and the surrounding area can contact the "Jugendkunstschule kunsthaus alte muhle e.V.". The goal is to make the offers as accessible as possible for children and young people, with facilities like youth centers, youth rooms, libraries, and artists' workshops set to be included in the project.

Next year, the first educational offers for the inter-communal youth art school will be developed. The project will focus on extracurricular offers, but long-term cooperation with schools and open full-day care is also possible. The NRW state government-funded program "Kulturrucksack NRW" is involved in the cooperation between the cities.

Beate Herrmann, who leads the "Jugendkunstschule kunsthaus alte muhle e.V.", will visit artists and youth facilities in the mentioned cities to kick-start the project. Activities related to networking will initially be launched this year.

To bring the idea of the inter-communal youth art school to the city center and districts, the art mobile (KUMO) will be used. The KUMOs will offer a 30-hour cultural participation programme for children and young people, with various artistic disciplines such as plastic arts, visual design, photography, dance, theater, and literature considered.

The cities of Arnsberg and Meschede will contribute about a third of the costs, with the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Förderkreis Kunst und Kultur Kloster Wedinghausen e.V. providing the remaining funds. The goal is to establish a joint program of cultural education that meets the criteria of a youth art school in the sense of the state working group for cultural pedagogical services / youth art schools NRW e.V. and to transfer it to a carrier model in the long term.

The project management lies with the "Jugendkunstschule kunsthaus alte muhle e.V.", and the educational concepts aim to be always at eye level with children and young people. The art mobile of the youth art school will be available for children and youth facilities, village communities, or other interested associations to invite.

This inter-communal youth art school promises to be an exciting development for the cultural landscape of Arnsberg and Meschede, and it's sure to provide a wealth of opportunities for children and young people in the region.
