Worms' Cathedral Quarter to Transform with €20M Investment
Worms' Cathedral Quarter is set for a significant transformation. The city plans to invest over €20 million by 2032, with federal and state governments contributing. The project aims to create a lively, green urban district with cultural, educational, and social offerings, attracting both residents and visitors.
The project, known as the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK), is divided into three phases. The first phase focuses on the Andreas Quarter and Hochstift area, including upgrading the Neumarkt and Hagenstraße. The garden of Andreasstift may also open to the public during this phase.
The second phase will see the creation of a new meeting place at the youth hostel and the redesign of Valckenbergstraße. The third phase plans to upgrade the direct cathedral environment and create a green city entrance at the Holy Sand and Neusatz.
The project aims to tackle critical points in the area, such as the vacant health department building, renovation-needed Hochstift and Andreasstift, heavily trafficked B47, above-average heat stress, and poorly accessible green spaces. It also aims to prepare the city for climate change by increasing green spaces and creating new public spaces.
The Worms Cathedral Quarter project promises to transform the area into an attractive, sustainable, and climate-resilient district. With over €20 million in funding and a comprehensive plan, the city aims to create a vibrant, green space that celebrates its historical heritage while preparing for the future.
