Workshops Saving Lives at Lake Auwald: An Insight
Checkin' Out the Aufwaltsee Action!
Sabine Hartmann's Enlightening Visit
Today's itinerary had us heading over to the Lebenshilfe workshops at the Aufwaldsee, a hub where folks with disabilities find not just gainful employment but a welcoming, self-determining community. Sabine Demuth, our passionate and knowledgeable guide, took us on a captivating tour of their wonderful workspaces.
Our adventure started in the carpentry department, where the master carpenter, Markus Beck, walked us through the crafty, wood-filled processes. Membership here is ten strong, all working with ardor to create high-quality furniture for both on-site needs and external customers. Come desks, coat racks, or beds, the output is top-notch, individualized, and much sought-after. This year, they've already maxed out on orders! No surprise there — carpentry is just one of the many reasons this workplace is loved.
A visit to the laundry department was up next, with Bianca, our group leader, enlightening us on all things washing, ironing, and folding. Clients served here range from social institutions and businesses to private individuals, who bring their laundry for professional care with prior arrangement. The service is appreciated, demonstrating how open the workshops are to the public. Future plans include moving the laundry department into new, modernized quarters.
Between workspaces, we caught glimpses of the employee break rooms. Each room features a kitchen and a tranquil relaxation area, serving as a sanctuary that nurtures employees and contributes to their overall well-being.
Our tour was filled with engaging insights into lived inclusion, true craftsmanship, and meaningful connections that will stay with us for a long time.
