The small town of Hassels, a district of Düsseldorf, came alive this week as the St. Antonius Shooting Festival began on May 16th. This annual event is a significant occasion for the St. Antonius Shooting Brotherhood, a traditional German marksmen's fraternity deeply rooted in local community life.

On Tuesday, the coronation ball marked the start of the new reign for the Bambini princess Emilia Weiß, youth princess Sophia Totrinc, regimental king Raimund, and regimental queen Stella Kaiser. Unfortunately, due to a camera malfunction, photos from the event are limited.

Despite this, the festival offered a variety of attractions, including the popular "Fly Over" and "Karibik Coaster" rides. Family-friendly activities were also available, making the festival an enjoyable outing for all ages.

The new majesties were not yet officially inaugurated at the time of the event. On Sunday afternoon, the reigning majesties, André and Claudia Kupferschmidt, along with the board, inspected the rows of assembled shooters at the St. Antonius Church.

The festival also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the "Gut Schuss" society. The festival preparations began on May 1st by members of the St. Antonius Shooting Brotherhood Düsseldorf-Hassels.

The clog dance ball, a traditional event in the southern districts of Düsseldorf, took place on Monday, while an '80s/'90s party filled the festival tent on Saturday. Lukas Klauke, the Bambini prince of 2024, also participated in the festival this year after being unable to do so last year due to illness.

The festival parade was moderated by Angela Helmdach and ended at the memorial. As the festival continues, it serves as a reminder of the rich history and cultural significance of the St. Antonius Shooting Brotherhood and its traditions in Hassels.

The St. Antonius Schützenbruderschaft Düsseldorf-Hassels, dating back centuries, was originally established for local defense but has since evolved into a social and cultural organization fostering camaraderie, tradition, and marksmanship skills. The festival is a key local event that reinforces community ties, honours heritage, and preserves regional customs typical of the Rhineland and broader German Schützen culture.

For a more detailed history of the St. Antonius Brotherhood and its festival, one might consult local Düsseldorf historical archives, the brotherhood's official publications or website, or regional cultural heritage sources on German shooting fraternities.

In the midst of the St. Antonius Shooting Festival, attendees found themselves immersed not only in the traditional shooting events but also in home-and-garden related activities. The home-and-garden section offered a glimpse into the lifestyle of the festivalgoers, showcasing local decorative ideas and gardening tips.

As the festival draws to a close each year, the St. Antonius Shooting Brotherhood ponders ways to improve the upcoming events, incorporating new ideas into the festival's home-and-garden segment to further enhance the overall lifestyle experience for the community of Hassels.
