Wife cultivates forest through tenacious green campaign, husband's retirement aspiration realized
In the heart of Bogor, a city situated south of Jakarta in West Java, a remarkable transformation has taken place. Over the past few years, a barren plot of land has been transformed into a thriving 'Organic Forest', all thanks to the determination and hard work of a 63-year-old woman named Madam Rosita.
Madam Rosita's journey began over two decades ago when she purchased a plot of land with a dream to create a mini forest. This idea was inspired by her husband, Luis Guzmán, who worked in the oil industry and had a retirement goal of creating a forest. Tragically, Mr. Guzmán passed away before the project could be initiated, but Madam Rosita was not deterred.
With an undying spirit and a commitment to preserving nature for future generations, Madam Rosita embarked on the land restoration project. The process was not easy; it required years of hard work and faced numerous challenges. One of the most significant obstacles was the threats from land brokers who sought to profit from the sale of the land.
Despite these challenges, Madam Rosita persevered. She acquired approximately 30 hectares of land for the project and set to work. Over the years, she has planted 44,000 trees, turning the once barren land into a bountiful Organic Forest.
Madam Rosita's dedication to the project has earned her a label as a 'half-crazy woman' by some, but to the people of Bogor, she is a hero. Her efforts have not only transformed the local landscape but also provided a sanctuary for various species of trees that might otherwise have become extinct due to deforestation and urbanization.
Before her environmental endeavours, Madam Rosita ran a tyre shop. However, her passion for nature and her husband's vision have led her down a new and rewarding path. The Organic Forest, now flourishing under her care, stands as a testament to her perseverance and dedication.
The Organic Forest Library project, as it is now known, continues to grow and thrive, thanks to Madam Rosita's unwavering commitment. Her story serves as an inspiration to all, proving that with determination and hard work, even the most barren of lands can be transformed into a bountiful oasis.
