Welcome joy to your dwelling place!
The All-Russian Society of the Blind (VOS) recently marked its 100th anniversary, a milestone that underscores its significant role in promoting independence and integration for visually impaired individuals across Russia. Founded on July 8, 1925, the organisation has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights and social inclusion of blind people in the country.
Key roles and contributions of the All-Russian Society of the Blind include advocacy and legal support, rehabilitation and independence programs, educational and vocational training, social and cultural integration, technological assistance, and collaboration with government and international bodies. The society works tirelessly to protect the legal rights of visually impaired citizens, ensuring they receive equal access to education, employment, and social services. They also offer rehabilitation services that teach skills for independent living and navigation, helping visually impaired individuals perform everyday tasks and gain mobility.
The celebration, named "Happiness to Your Home," brought together participants from the Sverdlovsk Special Library named after D.N. Mamin-Sibiryak and families of members of the All-Russian Society of the Blind. Vyacheslav Pogudin, Chairman of the Sverdlovsk Oblast Legislative Assembly's Committee on Social Policy, welcomed the attendees and conveyed the best wishes of the delegation from Sverdlovsk Oblast to all participants.
During the celebration, families shared stories about their children's successes and achievements in various fields such as sports, arts, and science. Vyacheslav Pogudin emphasised the importance of children within families, stating that they represent the future, and are a special place within the family. He also highlighted love, fidelity, and care as important moral values for families.
The event featured creative performances expressing love and affection towards family and loved ones. The "United Country - Accessible Environment" project, which is being implemented in the region to integrate people with disabilities and mobility impairments into society, was also discussed. Regular visitors of the library for the visually impaired and low vision appreciated the modern methods of information access for visually impaired people, particularly the work with neuro-sets.
Previously, six Sverdlovsk families became finalists of the All-Russian "Family of the Year" contest, as reported by "Regional Newspaper." The celebration served as a testament to the happiness and success that families with children bring, as stated by Vyacheslav Pogudin. The All-Russian Society of the Blind, with its centennial celebration, continues to play a significant role in uniting people in their pursuit of a happy and full life.
