Wedding Held in the Heart of the Republic Square
In an extraordinary turn of events, Republic Square played host to the first-ever wedding ceremony in the heart of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) on June 7. The celebrated couple, Vasilya Shakhurdina and Boris Troyfimov, exchanged their vows in this historic location, inviting the Republic of Sakha's Head, Aisen Nikolaev, to their special day.
Vasilya and Boris, who crossed paths in 2022, had dreams of tying the knot in a unique location from the get-go.
As Vasilya shared, "I always despised the notion of a traditional ZAGS wedding. After some research, we came across the opportunity to hold our ceremony on Republic Square, and we promptly submitted our application. Boris and I met three years ago, we used to zip around on scooters together, and eventually, our camaraderie transformed into something much deeper. I admire Boris for his steadiness and commitment, and most of all, he never tries to alter me and continuously supports me in every endeavor."
A 33-year-old engineer, Boris, and a 25-year-old kindergarten clerk, Vasilya, were joined by their close family and friends during the festivities. The live broadcast on April 27 welcomed Head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, to the celebration.
Nikolaev, in his sentiments, said, "I'm thrilled to be here with you, as the first couple in our republic to register their marriage on Republic Square. I wish you a lifetime of happiness together. May you always cherish each other, remain as joyful as you are today. May you have many children. I'm overjoyed that every year, over five thousand couples get married, and over 11 thousand children are born in Yakutia. I hope that every year, we'll see more and more radiant couples like you on this square."
Besides Republic Square, couples can also get hitched at Lena Pillars and in the city park. According to the registry office under the republic government, marriage registrations will take place weekly. The June slots have already been filled to the brim. Couples can submit their marriage registration applications via the Gosuslugi portal.
