Visual artists reveal personal realm transformations in physical form at Chennai art exhibition
In the heart of Chennai, Apparao Galleries is currently hosting an extraordinary art exhibition titled "The Alchemy of Thought". This unique showcase features nine artists who have transformed clay into poetic, playful, spiritual, and deeply human forms, inviting viewers into a space where thought becomes tangible through sculpture and contemporary Indian clay art. The exhibition runs until August 23, 2025, offering art enthusiasts a captivating experience not to be missed.
The exhibition delves into the idea that "consciousness materializes form and thought", providing a thought-provoking exploration of the connection between inner worlds and tangible forms. Among the artists showcased is Shweta Mansingka, who views clay as an integral part of her spiritual journey.
Shweta's work celebrates life's eternal rhythms, with elements of earth and fire. Her pieces often feature scorched surfaces and fragile, fruit-like forms, serving as symbols in her work. She describes the process of creating ceramic artwork as surrendering at the raw stage but requiring a certain stage of dryness to avoid collapsing, a metaphor she draws from human nature.
Before delving into the world of clay, Shweta was immersed in the high-speed world of entrepreneurship. However, she found a new rhythm in clay, a medium that slows everything down, almost into slow motion.
Another intriguing artist in the exhibition is Nandini Hirianniah. Nandini's pieces are a crafty marriage of rhythm and geometry, existing as pure expressions of thought. She believes that every piece she creates with her hands is a collective consciousness of what she embodies.
Nandini's works are not intended for practical use but are born from playful prompts or found objects. Before discovering clay, Nandini was in the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship. However, clay unexpectedly entered her life and significantly changed its pace.
The "The Alchemy of Thought" art exhibition is open to all and will be on display till August 23. The exhibition's viewing hours are from 3 pm to 6.30 pm. The artists featured in the exhibition include S Harshavardhana, Saraswati, Indrani Singh Cassime, Nandini Hirianniah, Potrarasan, Priya Sundaravalli, Suresh Prajapati, Shweta Mansingka, and Loganathan.
