Town Center Transformation in Greifswald 2025: Crafting Captivating Urban Spaces by Congress!

The 3rd Inner City Congress in Greifswald recently brought together approximately 100 individuals from politics, economy, science, and municipalities to discuss and collaborate on strategies for dealing with vacancies and opening up new uses in inner cities.

The focus of the congress was on creating attractive inner cities, and Economics Minister Dr. Wolfgang Blank praised the collaborative effort of the applicant projects. Dr. Christian Eckert from the imakomm Academy delved into the role of trade associations in inner-city design, presenting possible future scenarios for urban development.

Dr. Moritz Maikämper from the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development emphasised the importance of rethinking inner cities, particularly in relation to vacant buildings. Actor Martin Neuhaus led a discussion on the multifaceted perspectives of inner-city development with the event participants.

The 2025 inner-city competition 'Success Space Old Town' awards were presented in four categories. In the category 'New Foundation', Zweiter Blick Neustrelitz (Michaela Seliga) was announced as the winner, although further information about the winner in this category was not available in the search results.

Partners for the Inner City Congresses include the Ministry of Economics, the Ministry of Building, the three Chambers of Industry and Commerce, the Association of Cities and Municipalities, and the Retail Association North. Building Minister Christian Pegel encouraged attendees to 'unleash their creativity' and transform inner cities into vibrant meeting places.

Cities such as Stralsund and Wolgast presented practical examples of inner-city development, showcasing successful projects and initiatives that have revitalised their urban spaces. The 3rd Inner City Congress in Greifswald underscored the importance of collaboration and innovation in revitalising Germany's inner cities.
