Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival Embraces Sustainable Gardening

The Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival, taking place in Somerset from September 18th-20th, promises a weekend filled with practical, sustainable, and wildlife-friendly gardening tips from some of the industry's leading experts.

Throughout the event, Garden Organic's team will share composting advice, helping festival-goers to make the most of their organic waste and contribute to healthier soil.

On day three, RHS Gold Medallist Tom Massey will share water-wise gardening ideas, encouraging attendees to conserve water while maintaining beautiful and thriving gardens.

Echinacea, verbena bonariensis, monarda, and asters are just a few examples of nectar-rich, drought-tolerant plants that are beneficial for pollinators. These plants are expected to be highlighted at the festival, along with tips on growing pollinator-friendly cut flowers, as Georgie Newbery of Common Farm Flowers will share on September 19th.

Expert talks and workshops from inspiring gardening voices like Charles Dowding, Alys Fowler, and Tom Massey will cover a range of topics, including no-dig gardening techniques, wildlife-friendly practices, sustainable plant cultivation, and even garden tool care. Niwaki experts will be on hand to provide practical workshops on tool care and sharpening.

The festival will also delve into the science of pollination, as Dr Daniel Robert and Dr Heather Whitney from the University of Bristol will explore this fascinating topic on September 19th.

Gardeners' World favourite Frances Tophill will speak on September 19th, focusing on gardening with biodiversity and climate change in mind. Arit Anderson, a garden designer and BBC presenter, will kick off the festival with her talk on September 18th.

Charles Dowding, the UK's no-dig gardening guru, will close the festival with tips for soil-friendly growing. The festival will also provide information on attracting wildlife into the garden, with tips on letting the lawn grow freely for a month to provide ten times more nectar for bees and butterflies.

In addition to the wealth of knowledge on offer, attendees can browse stalls offering sustainable plants, garden tools, and artisanal produce, reinforcing the festival’s focus on environmentally responsible gardening.

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, the Yeo Valley Organic Garden Festival offers a wealth of information and inspiration for those looking to make their gardens more sustainable, wildlife-friendly, and enjoyable. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to learn from the best and take your gardening skills to the next level!
