Bicycling endeavor titled "City Cycling" instigated within Thuringia jurisdiction - Thuringia Introduces 'City Pedals' Initiative for Promoting Bicycle Transportation

Ready to rev up those pedals and make a difference? The thrilling "Stadtradeln" cycling event has taken off in the heart of Gera, with an astounding 40 cities across Thuringia joining forces. Transport State Secretary Tobias Knoblich shared the excitement, highlighting this as the record-breaking year for this Climate Alliance Services GmbH initiative, a European coalition of cities, municipalities, and counties devoted to promoting cycling.

So, lace up those shoes and grab a helmet—it's time to hit the streets! Citizens, students, employees, and officials are invited to endeavor to traverse as many daily routes as possible over 21 action-packed days.

First-timers may be thrilled to hear that, in 2022, a statewide launch took place in Stadtilm. This three-week period offers a chance to alter daily commuting habits, bicycling to work, school, or wherever your day takes you. Knoblich emphasized the potential for transformational change, celebrating the ministry's commitment since 2016 by covering municipalities' participation fees.

It's not all about the journey; schools will have a chance to win big with prize money reaching a whopping €10,000! The winning school will be the one that covers the most kilometers collectively. In 2024 alone, 131 Thuringian schools from 24 participating cities and municipalities threw their hat in the ring.
