The Gutenberg Inn, located in Karlsruhe's Weststadt, welcomes its latest occupants.
In a significant development for Weststadt's dining scene, Tanja and Alexander Finck are set to return to their roots and take over Gasthaus Gutenberg on January 1, 2026. The Fincks, who previously ran Vaca Verde in Weststadt until 2018, will bring a fresh perspective to the market-leading establishment.
Denise Bender, the current owner of Gasthaus Gutenberg since 1999, will hand over the reins to the Fincks in a collaborative effort. Bender, who has built a reputation for Gasthaus Gutenberg that extends beyond Weststadt's borders, expressed surprise at the idea but respects the work Tanja Finck has done in the past.
The Fincks' tenure at Gasthaus Gutenberg will see a change in the portion sizes, with dishes served in tapas portions to encourage a sharing atmosphere. The kitchen will offer light dishes in a Baden-Mediterranean style, reflecting the Fincks' culinary vision. However, the chef assures that none of the beloved classics will be taken away.
The menu will be based on the motto "Sharing tastes better," reflecting the Fincks' philosophy of communal dining. The name of Gasthaus Gutenberg will change slightly to "Das Gutenberg by Fincks" when it reopens.
Meanwhile, the Fincks are set to continue serving their guests at Hofgut Maxau until the end of the year. The Fincks, who are leaving Hofgut Maxau with a smile, made the decision to leave at the beginning of the year. They no longer saw a future for gastronomy on the Rhine, making the move back to Weststadt an exciting prospect.
The Fincks' return to Weststadt is not their first venture in the area. They previously ran Vaca Verde, a popular establishment in the region. Tanja Finck expresses fondness for Weststadt and is looking forward to reconnecting with the community.
Gasthaus Gutenberg will offer a new variety under the Fincks' management, ensuring that the restaurant remains a vibrant and exciting dining destination for Weststadt and beyond. The establishment is in a good condition for a smooth handover, ensuring a seamless transition for both staff and guests.
