Synagogue Renovation for Military Personnel Planned in 2027
Work on the restoration of the wooden soldier's synagogue on Frunze Prospect, 15, has commenced in Tomsk. The Tomsk synagogue's Telegram channel announced that preparations for the building's repair are currently underway.
According to Levi Kamintsky, the chief rabbi of the Tomsk Jewish Community, the repair contract is scheduled to be completed by January 2027. However, Kamintsky expressed hope that the work will be finished earlier. At present, they are only starting to gather debris. No finishing work has begun yet.
In 2018, the city administration transferred the soldier's synagogue to the Tomsk Jewish Community. Upon its restoration, a museum dedicated to the history of Siberian Jews will open in the building.
No further details regarding the timeline or specific purpose of the wooden soldier's synagogue were provided.
The restoration of the wooden soldier's synagogue, once complete, will house a museum dedicated to the history of Siberian Jews, transforming it into a significant part of the local home-and-garden scene as well as contributing to a revitalized lifestyle for the community.
