Striking Black Cube House in Hudson Valley Defies Challenges

A striking black home, the 'House on a Hill' in the Hudson Valley, New York, stands out for its unique cubic form that harmonises with its surroundings. Designed by FORMA Architects, the home is a testament to ingenious design in the face of real-world challenges. Originally planned as a larger home, the project faced setbacks due to construction costs and labour shortages. The founders of FORMA Architects, Miroslava Brooks and Daniel Markiewicz, adapted the design to create a compact, uniquely configured home with a 700 sq ft footprint. The interior features three bedrooms and bathrooms, with a standout double-height living room offering panoramic views of the Catskills and the Berkshires. The exterior, a striking black home made of cedar, presents architectural details that change from different angles. The 'House on a Hill' is a remarkable example of design ingenuity, transforming potential obstacles into a unique, compact home that blends seamlessly with its surroundings in the Hudson Valley.
