Street Lessingstraße transforms into a bike path: new bike connection to St. Joseph's Hospital
In the heart of Wiesbaden, the Lessingstraße has undergone a significant transformation. On March 2, 2020, this 450-meter long stretch of road, extending from Mainzer Straße to Frankfurter Straße, was officially designated as a bike street.
The Lessingstraße, which already had priority as marked by signs and road markings, now boasts a designated safety area between parked and moving traffic. This measure is aimed at reducing the risk of 'doorings' and enhancing overall traffic safety.
Despite the changes, public parking spaces remain unaffected. The motor vehicle traffic in this section of the Lessingstraße is relatively low, making it a suitable cycling route for commuters seeking an alternative to the 1st ring.
In a partial section, the usage of the Lessingstraße is restricted to residents. However, property access remains unrestricted, ensuring that life continues as usual for local businesses and residents.
Cyclists are now free to ride side by side on the Lessingstraße, making for a more enjoyable and efficient commute. A speed limit of 30 km/h applies on the Lessingstraße, ensuring a safe and leisurely pace for cyclists and motorists alike.
The Lessingstraße bike route is not just a practical solution for commuters, but also a step towards promoting a greener and more sustainable city. With its new status as a bike street, Wiesbaden continues to lead the way in urban planning and environmental consciousness.
