Weilheim County Gazette's Spotlight: Weilheim Beautification Association

In the upcoming weeks and months, the Weilheim-Schongau district's KOBE (Coordination Office for Citizen Engagement) and our team will be highlighting local associations and volunteer organizations to bolster volunteer work in the district. This week, we're shining the light on the Weilheim Beautification Association, a 150-year-old organization dedicated to making Weilheim even more beautiful.

Bettina Pyko, the association's first chairwoman, shares their history and ongoing projects: "From pioneering initiatives like the Au park, now Weilheim's lung, the association has contributed to shaping the cityscape. Topics like climate and environmental protection remain highly relevant." The association's tasks span a wide range, from small clean-up projects to initiatives that enhance Weilheim's communal life. Examples include awarding nature-friendly front gardens in Weilheim, planting new trees, refurbishing the playhouse at the Rosengarten playground, creating a barefoot path, installing a fountain, and a business consultation service for nature-friendly outdoor facilities. With a keen eye, you can spot the beautification association's handiwork throughout the city.

An annual highlight is the Rose Festival, attracting numerous visitors to the Rosengarden and serving as the association's central event each year. The Rosengarden, established by the beautification association in 1998, sits on Weilheim's southern city wall.

The association faces some contemporary challenges: a dwindling number of members and an aging average member age. Bettina encourages interested parties to join by contacting her via email at [email protected] or phone at 0881/49407. More information can be found at www.vvwm.de.

Each day, stay informed with the Kreisbote-Newsletter or the "Kreisbote"-App about Weilheim's most significant stories.
