Secluded luxuries: Pavilion, pool, and gardens adorn a Devon countryside estate, boasting no nearby structures.

In the picturesque hamlet of Ebberly, near Roborough, Devon, stands Ebberly House - a remarkable 19th-century country house that boasts an unusual and attractive design, reflecting the influences of architects such as Nash and Soane.

Originally rebuilt in 1816 by Henry Hole, who inherited the estate from his uncle, Ebberly House showcases rounded ends and high-quality original interiors, including plasterwork and joinery. The house, which is Grade II* listed, has been preserved in its original architectural and design glory without any alterations.

Located on a plateau between the Torridge and Taw rivers, Ebberly House offers breathtaking views to the south across Dartmoor, with no other building in sight. The main house spans approximately 11,000sq ft, offering four fine reception rooms, a well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room, domestic offices, wine cellars, a principal bedroom suite, eight further bedrooms, and five further bathrooms.

The interior design, plasterwork, joinery, and architectural detail of Ebberly House are of a high standard usually found in much larger historic houses. Notable features include the library and kitchen, both of which have a window placed above an open fireplace - a device often seen in Soane's designs.

Ebberly House comes with seven cottages, farm buildings, and rich partureland, which historically produced an estate income of £50,000 a year. The gardens, originally laid out by Thomas Lee, have been significantly improved by the present owners and include a profusion of snowdrops, bluebells, rhododendrons, formal gardens, a Victorian pleasure garden, and two lakes.

The house has been sold three times in Martin Lamb's 40-year career. In 1991, the first sale of Ebberly House was handled by Martin Lamb. From 1997 to 2010, the Whitbread family owned Ebberly House and carried out extensive renovations, including installing a heated swimming pool, pavilion, and tennis court within the Grade II-listed former walled garden.

Today, significant income is still generated by the seven cottages, and the biomass boiler also contributes. Ebberly House is currently on the market for £6.95 million, listed for sale via Knight Frank's country department.
