Revamped Arc'teryx Beta jacket prioritizes sustainability, deemed "the best yet" by the brand
In a move towards greater sustainability and performance, Arc'teryx has unveiled the 2025 Beta AR jacket. This all-mountain hardshell, a more sustainable version of the classic Beta Jacket, boasts numerous improvements and features that make it a standout choice for outdoor enthusiasts.
The heart of the Beta AR is the Gore-Tex PRO ePE membrane, which delivers elite waterproof protection with a lighter, thinner profile and enhanced long-term durability. What sets this membrane apart is its PFAS-free composition, a significant reduction in environmental impact while maintaining high performance. The entire jacket—membrane, face fabric, and DWR treatment—is free from PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals."
The Beta AR's durability has been enhanced in other ways too. A higher-denier face fabric makes it more rugged, while enhanced lamination increases its longevity. Practical updates include redesigned cordlocks that work better with gloves, pack-friendly pockets, and an integrated RECCO reflector for avalanche searchability embedded in the hood brim.
Arc'teryx has also streamlined the manufacturing process, saving fabric waste equivalent to 400 jackets per production run. This not only boosts sustainability but also reduces the jacket's price, now at $650 / £600. The dying process takes place at the yarn level, further reducing water usage.
The Beta AR will be available in multiple colorways from July 31, starting from XXS and going up to XXL. Weighing 13.9oz (395g) in women's sizing and 16.2oz (460g) in men's sizing, the jacket is designed for comfort and functionality.
For those who already own an older Beta jacket, Arc'teryx encourages hanging onto it or using the Arc'teryx trade-in program for an upgrade if you're in North America. Soon, you may also find a good deal on an older but still great Beta jacket through the Arc'teryx ReBird program.
Arc'teryx is committed to improving the circularity of its gear, and the Beta AR is no exception. Its design and manufacturing processes are geared towards reducing waste and increasing sustainability, making it a worthy investment for environmentally conscious outdoor enthusiasts. The Beta AR will be launching on July 31, 2023.
