Rekindled Affection for the Nintendo Switch 2 Arises, Fueled by a Match 3 Puzzle Game
The classic match-3 puzzler, Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition, has made a comeback, now available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This remastered version of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, published by D3 Publisher, offers updated graphics, new quests, all expansion packs released to date, and a new character class to play as in the campaign.
For those who are always on the move, Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition serves as a great distraction while traveling. The game plays brilliantly in handheld mode, making it an ideal companion for long journeys. The Nintendo Switch 2, which the author received on its launch day in June, feels better than ever while playing this classic game.
The author's return to the Nintendo Switch 2 was sparked by the relaunch of Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition. After playing several games, the Nintendo Switch 2 was left unused for a while. However, the author's fond memories of playing Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords on numerous consoles in the past couldn't be ignored.
Each match-up in the game sees you face a foe, with certain coloured gems adding mana across the four elements - earth, air, water, and fire. Skulls on the board inflict damage when matched, and your enemy can do the same during their turn. Matching three or more gems stores that mana to cast spells or use character class skills on the computer opponent.
Originally released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP handhelds, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords was rapidly ported to various devices. Now, with Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition, players can enjoy a refreshed release of the game, incorporating content from Puzzle Quest: The Legend Returns. The game includes all expansions and adds its own extra bonuses.
While Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition is not a new Super Mario Odyssey or Metroid Prime 4, it is a welcome return of a classic game. For those looking for a change from the usual action-packed games, Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition offers a unique blend of puzzle-solving and strategy, making it a great addition to any gaming library.
