Receives Heimatmedaille Baden-Württemberg 2025 Award
The city of Weinheim recently hosted the Baden-Württemberg Homeland Days, a significant event in the region's calendar. State Secretary Arne Braun awarded the Homeland Medal to ten citizens in recognition of their contributions to regional culture, historical research, customs, dialect, art history, and social and integrative projects.
The recipients of the Homeland Medal are individuals who foster acceptance and democratic participation, create places for encounter, and strengthen village and city communities. They have been collaborating with around 200 member associations and clubs in homeland care across the region.
The selection of personalities for the Homeland Medal is advised by the State Committee for Homeland Care Baden-Württemberg. Proposals for recipients come from working groups for homeland care in the four government districts.
Arne Braun, in his speech, stated that having a homeland is a great fortune and that homeland is not fixed and stable. He emphasised the importance of inclusion, stating that it is not 'them and us,' but rather 'us.'
The awarding of the Homeland Medals marks the beginning of the State Festival Days within the framework of the Baden-Württemberg Homeland Days. The honourees have played a crucial role in keeping communities and Baden-Württemberg traditions alive.
The names of the Ten Honorees are not publicly available at this time. However, the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts features portraits of previous Homeland Medal honourees.
