Pursuing a Defined Goal: Sedus's Aim in Focus
Dogern (ots) -
Sustainability is deeply ingrained in Sedus' ethos. Back in 1993, Christof Stoll recognized that ecology and economy were not opposites but essential components of the whole. As a pioneer in sustainability, he was named WWF's Eco-Manager of the Year. Now, over 30 years later, Sedus aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025.
By 2025, Sedus' sites in Dogern and Geseke (Scope 1 & 2) will be carbon neutral. According to CEO of Sedus Stoll AG, Daniel Kittner, the goal is to reduce 30% of direct emissions by the end of 2025, with an additional 20% reduction by 2030. Furthermore, Sedus aims to optimize energy concepts, packaging, and source 80% of wood for furniture production from sustainable forestry by 2025 [1].
Sedus adopts a circular economy approach to designing and manufacturing products—one that is circular, transparent, and traceable. Material selection for sustainable office furniture, processing, packaging, reuse, and recycling are all part of the Sedus Green Codex. The process ensures minimal environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle [2].
"Sedus' efforts in ensuring a closed product lifecycle are exemplified by our certifications, such as the recent EcoVadis 'Gold' and SA8000, and the transparency of product components," Kittner explains. "We also resell products with minimal wear at lower prices and take back heavily used chairs for recycling, enabling us to recycle materials during product development."
Sedus' social commitment to people and the environment is evident through its involvement with the Stoll VITA Foundation and the Karl Bröcker Foundation [2]. These foundations support various projects, including nature conservation, public health projects, education, and institutions for needy children and youth, both domestically and internationally.
"Sedus' social commitment is deeply rooted in many projects," Kittner says. "Through such initiatives, we're proud to give back to society, particularly through organizations like Pro Uganda and Transplant-Kids e. V."
