The Zarrella Duo: 20 Years of Unbreakable Bond and Energy Efficiency
A team that's been working harmoniously together for two decades - Preservation of Two Decades of Camaraderie: Our Longstanding Bond as a Cohesive Crew.
Jana Ina (48) and Giovanni Zarrella (47) have been unstoppable for 20 years, managing family life, careers, and two busy teenagers. Amidst the chaos, they find time for each other, ensuring their bond remains unbreakable. "We're each other's biggest fans. There's no competition, only support," Jana Ina exclaims during a video shoot for energy provider Eon in Essen.
Despite it all, their family life is far from peaceful. Packed schedules, school, and shows dominate their calendar. Yet somehow, they manage to stay on top of everything. "We have a shared family calendar - everything goes in there, including the kids' appointments," reveals the presenter. Prioritizing family comes first: "We want to be there for our children's special moments. Sometimes we sleep less, but we'll catch up on sleep later."
Planning the 20th Anniversary Celebration, Spontaneously
In August, the couple will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. No firm plans yet, as Jana Ina and Giovanni tend to make decisions on the fly: "Right now, we're living day by day. But we'll figure it out." Their lives may be under the public eye, but they know exactly where to draw the line between private and professional. "I show parts of our daily life on Instagram, make jokes about life with teenagers. But the kids are off-limits - and that's respected."
The Zarrellas' approachability is evident even in everyday settings like the supermarket or bakery: "People talk to us as if we're friends or neighbors," explains Jana Ina. "My husband chats with every baker, sings a tune, has a little chat... As long as people are nice, we are too - then everything works out."
The Zarrellas make an exceptional team not only in family matters but also in energy efficiency. Giovanni keeps a close eye on smart tariffs to allow Jana Ina to charge her car cost-effectively, while she ensures the lights are turned off and devices are unplugged. Even the kids contribute, reminding their parents to turn off lights when it's bright outside.
A Green Lifestyle: Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
For Brazil-born Jana Ina, sustainability is a way of life. Switching from a hybrid to a fully electric car was the first step, with installing solar panels on their home the next. "We saw it at our neighbor's and said, 'That looks good!'" Jana Ina reports. "I researched it while walking the dog, and if I can charge my car with solar power, that's perfect!"
Understanding the reasoning behind her car charging at night, instead of immediately, fills her with pride. "I thought there was something wrong with my charging box at first. But now I know - I have a flexible tariff. My car charges at night when electricity demand is lower - it's better for the environment and my wallet."
A Green Family: Adopting Energy-Saving Practices
To make a difference, here are some energy-saving best practices everyone can implement:
- LED Lighting: Replace traditional bulbs with LED bulbs for energy efficiency.
- Insulation: Proper insulation reduces heat loss and gain, making your home more energy-efficient.
- Appliance Efficiency: Opt for Energy Star-rated appliances to minimize energy consumption.
- Smart Thermostats: Smart thermostats optimize heating and cooling usage based on your schedule.
- Regular Energy Audits: Identify areas of energy inefficiency through regular energy audits.
- Solar Power: Install solar panels for renewable electricity generation.
- Weatherproofing: Seal any gaps or cracks around windows and doors to prevent air leaks.
- Energy-Efficient Windows: Install double or triple-glazed windows to reduce heat transfer.
- Energy Monitoring: Use smart plugs or energy monitors to track energy usage in real-time.
- Good Habits: Encourage energy-saving habits such as turning off lights, electronics, and taps when not in use.
Adopting these practices is a simple yet effective way to reduce energy consumption, promote sustainability, and minimize your carbon footprint. So grab your opportunity, take charge, and make a difference - your wallet and the planet will thank you!
