Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the traditional Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence in the national Capital on Saturday. The festivities included schoolchildren and Brahma Kumaris tying 'rakhis' and offering sweets, making it a memorable occasion.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival that honors the sacred bond between brothers and sisters, symbolized by the tying of a rakhi (a sacred thread) by a sister on her brother's wrist. This ritual signifies the sister's prayer for her brother's well-being and the brother's vow to protect her.

During the celebration, a large group of children could be seen teeming around PM Modi, one by one, tying 'rakhis' on his wrist. The Brahma Kumaris, the largest spiritual organization in the world led by women, were the highlight of this year's Raksha Bandhan at PM's official residence. Several Brahma Kumaris tied the sacred thread while the Prime Minister vowed to relentlessly work for their betterment.

The Prime Minister reciprocated his affection for kids by embracing and showering them with blessings. The children showed their affinity and affection for the Prime Minister in multiple ways, including shaking hands, extending warm smiles, giving warm hugs, engaging in conversation, and planting a peck on his cheeks.

The historical background of Raksha Bandhan is rich and rooted in various ancient legends and scriptures. One legend involves King Bali and Goddess Lakshmi, where Lakshmi tied a rakhi on Bali's wrist, symbolically making him her brother and securing his protection of her consort Vishnu, who had taken the Vamana avatar. This event is said to have occurred on the full moon of the Shravan month, marking the festival's timing and the theme of protective bonds.

Raksha Bandhan evolved as a ceremonial expression of love, loyalty, and protection rooted in Hindu mythology, history, and scripture. It celebrates not only biological relationships but also bonds of social and spiritual responsibility, emphasizing selfless duty and trust.

On this auspicious occasion, PM Modi took to his social media handle to greet the nation and countrymen, expressing his warm wishes for a prosperous and happy Raksha Bandhan. The Prime Minister's celebration of Raksha Bandhan with schoolchildren and Brahma Kumaris was a testament to the spirit of the festival, reinforcing the mutual respect and appreciation that underpin the bond between brothers and sisters.
