Voting for a Better City Life Kicks Off in Sverdlovsk Region

Over 50% of the city's residents chose to prioritize parks in the election.

Stepping into the urban transformation game, five cities in the Sverdlovsk region have taken the first leading steps in the "Creating a Cozy City" project. As reported by local sources, over half of the residents aged 14 and up have already cast their votes, making an impact in Krasnouralsk, Alapayevsky District, Sukholug, Tavda, and Volchansk. Already, over a quarter-million Sverdlovsk citizens have contributed to this broad-reaching endeavor.

The voting period, scheduled from April 21 to June 12 this year, invites residents of the region to have a say in improving public spaces. Over 150 local areas are in the running for enhancement, with participants able to choose one area or vote for the designs of previously selected locations via the website zagorodsreda.gosuslugi.ru.

In Yekaterinburg alone, the teaming effort includes over 3,500 dedicated volunteers encouraging residents to participate in the voting process. Catch these helpful volunteers at shopping centers and various public spots, easily spotted by their distinctive badges and vests bearing the project logo. The volunteers help with on-the-spot mobile voting. Stations with voice recordings from Mayor Alexei Orlov have even popped up in the metro, reminding locals to join in on the action.

Though Yekaterinburg's communities pour their hearts into this project, it's not a one-city show - other cities, such as Nizhny Tagil and regional neighbor Perm, often align themselves with such regional development initiatives. For the most up-to-date information on which cities are currently leading in the voting race, it's best to scour local news sources or direct updates from regional authorities. The landscape is quickly evolving, as the project progresses!
