Over 180 apartments buildings in Almaty undergo repairs.

Let's Get Down to Business:

Since 2020, over 180 housing complexes in Almaty have undergone a transformation. These renovations extend beyond mere cosmetics, with entranceways and rooftops getting a much-needed facelift, aging elevators being swapped out for shiny new ones, and the installation of cutting-edge engineering networks. The city's ambitious plan, named "New Almaty," is gaining momentum, with a special focus on modernizing existing housing and utilities. For instance, the "Nurly Zher" program offers interest-free payment plans for all necessary renovations, as reported by Almaty.tv.

Inara Mazitova, a resident of a typical Soviet-era block on Seifullin Prospect, once lived in a building that looked like it had seen better days. Rain showers would leak through the roof, and the walls were riddled with cracks. But after learning about the "Nurly Zher" program's "housing and utilities modernization" component, she waste no time in getting her neighbors on board and submitting an application.

"We gathered our documents, signed agreements with contractors, and they took care of the repairs for us in less than 2 months. The work was well-done, they even showed us what they were doing, let us chose our colors, and helped us select materials," Inara Mazitova, a city resident, shared with us.

Lydia Lisova, a pensioner living on Zhandosov Street, couldn't be happier with the new look of her home. She believes it's now the prettiest in the neighborhood. She expresses her heartfelt thanks to the city authorities.

"First, they cleaned the walls, then they did the finishing, and later applied a protective mesh to the entire exterior and painted it twice," Lydia Lisova, another city resident, pointed out.

Under the "Nurly Zher" program's "housing and utilities modernization" component, residents of high-rise buildings can secure a loan for repairs without any additional fees. The funds can be used for a plethora of improvements, such as facade updates, roof replacement, the installation of new engineering networks, elevator upgrades, and more.

"By the end of October 2020, 183 residential buildings had been repaired. Out of these, 300 elevators had been replaced in 138 buildings, with repairs still ongoing in 46 buildings. All work will be completed by the end of October this year," said Kuanysh Seitov, head of the modernization department of TОО "Almaty Turgyn Uy".

Since the start of the program "Nurly Zher," a whopping 1283 city high-rise buildings have seen renovations. Over half of these have undergone major renovations, while the rest have received new elevators.
