Romania's Summer and Fall Film Festivals Unveiled
Get ready, film enthusiasts! Romania is set to host a series of captivating film festivals and outdoor screenings this summer and fall. Here's a rundown of the exciting events that are scheduled to take place.
July
The festivities kick off with Ceau, Cinema in Timișoara from July 16 to 20. This festival promises Romanian premieres, silent film cineconcerts, and outdoor screenings.
Following closely is the Alba Iulia Music and Film Festival from July 25 to 27. This event features films awarded at international festivals and TIFF selections, along with Q&A sessions.
Throughout July, multiple summer events with outdoor screenings will be held in Breb, Târgu Lăpuș, Timișoara and Satu Mare, Mediaș, and Zabola. The exact dates for Zabola are yet to be announced.
Cinema Studio in Timișoara will also host evening film screenings on its rooftop terrace during July, with a Francois Truffaut Focus during the weekend of July 10-13.
Moreover, a program of films focusing on various artists will be screened outdoors at Caro Cultura, with updates available throughout July and August.
August
The Râșnov Film and Histories Festival will take place in Râșnov & Brasov from August 8 to 24. Multiple venues including cinemas, churches, and public spaces will be used for screenings, debates, concerts, and theater performances.
The Romanian Film Evenings in Iași will run from August 6 to 10, showcasing a thematic festival dedicated to women in arts with screenings and events.
The Cinemascop Garden in Eforie Sud will host a series of film screenings until August 24, ranging from Hollywood blockbusters to European films, documentaries, shorts, experimental films, and productions for children.
Luna Plina/ Full Moon horror and fantasy film festival will take place in Biertan from August 15 to 17, dedicating itself to "women who give voice, color, and courage to cinema, theater, and music." The festival's program covers a mix of film screenings, debates, concerts, and other events, exploring the theme of the "(anti)system."
Râșnov Film Festival (FFIR 2025) will take place at various locations from August 8 to 24, with screenings, debates, concerts, and theater performances happening in Feldioara, Codlea, Brașov, and Râșnov.
The Anonimul International Independent Film Festival will take place in Sfântu Gheorghe (Danube Delta) from August 11 to 17.
Fall (Beyond August)
