Title: Hop Aboard the Nostalgic Whitsun Tram Festival in the Bergisch Region!

Old railway lines running across the Bergland region's landscapes make for a traditional, heritage journey.

All aboard! The historical trams are geared up for another ride as the Whitsun Tram Festival returns to the Bergisch forests and valleys after a hiatus of four years.

Remember the rush of thrill as you rode through the woods and past industrial landmarks on the vintage trams? The Bergische Museumsbahnen association and railway enthusiasts have been counting the days for this moment. The Whitsun Tram Festival is back to whisk you away through the charming Bergisch region.

When floods threatened the journey

Let's start with why we had to wait:

  • The century flood near the Wupper: In October 2020, the historical trams that had been running for more than six decades had to take a break due to the pandemic and the floods that ravaged the Wupper region. The tram museum grounds were severely impacted, leaving the beautiful vintage trams to hibernate inside.

Restoring the track and the trams

But better times are here:

  • Volunteers making magic happen: Fewer volunteers meant more work during the lockdown, but the association and its members have fought tough to get the museum and the track back on track. Restoring the rusting masts and the tracks, the trams are ready to roll again.
  • The safety inspector's approval: As per the technical supervisory authority at the regional government, the track is safe and sound for operation.

Departure! Departure!

Your final destination awaits:

  • Join the festivities: During the 31st Bergisches tram festival, the vintage trams will buzz with activity from 11 am to 6 pm on Whit Sunday and Monday. The approx. 3.5 km track will be bustling with the vibrant sounds of the vintage trams.
  • Tickets: A round trip will cost seven euros, with free admission for children and young people up to 16 years old. In addition to vintage tram rides, miniature layouts will also be on display at the depot.
