Miramar Water Park Set for Mid-June Reopening After Fire Mishap

"Swimming venue 'Miramar' set to resume operations from mid-June following a fire incident" - Miramar's delayed opening set for mid-June.

Laying waste to initial plans, the much-anticipated reopening of the popular water leisure paradise, Miramar, nestled in Weinheim, Rhein-Neckar district, has been pushed back to mid-June. Originally, the reopening was scheduled for May, but prior to that, there were whispers of an April return. A representative of Miramar confirmed the new date.

The havoc wreaked by the fire that broke out in early December now stands at an estimated 20 million euros in damages—a stark contrast to the previously speculated 10 million. The fire left a trail of destruction through the park, obliterating parts of the thrill-filled water playground and the salt and crystal therapy area. A preliminary investigation hints that a technical flaw was the culprit.

Upon its reopening in mid-June, only the heart-pumping water playground and the sauna area will be accessible. Through a miraculous feat of resilience, the therapy area, slated for a December reopening, will be rebuilt to mimic its former glory. Salvageable fragments of the original building, including the foundation, will be repurposed in the revival process.

"The damage is severe than we initially imagined," admits Managing Director Lara Steinhart. Previously, Steinhart hoped for an earlier reopening, but the current state of the changing rooms and sanitary facilities has made this an unattainable goal.

The initial estimate of the damages was significantly undervalued, Steinhart explains. "The true extent of the damage went beyond 20 million euros."

Rumors circulating suggested that the entire roof of the pool needed replacement. In addition, the operators are investing an extra 1.8 million euros for renovations and improvements such as a redesigned slide tower.

Earlier reports hinted at revenue losses of around 9 million euros due to the closure. Approximately 200 employees were temporarily laid off, although the total employment roster consists of 130 permanent positions and additional temporary staff. "The workforce remains intact as no layoffs occurred due to operational reasons," the spokesperson clarified.

On an average year, up to 700,000 visit the Miramar water park. The park boasts an outdoor area complete with a sandy beach by a lake, a sauna area, and a plethora of exhilarating slides. To keep the prices competitive, the operators have no plans to hike ticket rates after the reopening.
