Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Honors Innovative Inner-City Revitalization Projects
Over a hundred prominent figures from various sectors convened in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to brainstorm about inner-city development. The event, centred around tackling vacancies and exploring new uses for urban spaces, culminated in the announcement of winners for the 'Success Room Old Town' 2025 competition.
The cities of Greifswald, Stralsund, and Wismar emerged victorious, each showcasing innovative approaches to revitalising their historic city centres. Economics Minister Dr. Wolfgang Blank lauded their collaborative efforts, highlighting the importance of collective action in urban renewal.
A special prize was bestowed upon musiKKlub Schwerin, city magnets Neubrandenburg, and the association of old town traders Parchim e.V., recognising their unique contributions to inner-city vibrancy. Construction Minister Christian Pegel urged attendees to harness creativity in transforming inner cities into lively hubs.
Dr. Moritz Maikämper delved into the issue of empty buildings in town centres, stressing the need for collective rethinking of inner-city spaces. The state prizes 2025 were awarded across four categories, with notable winners including Genusswelt NEUKOWIS, Zweiter Blick Neustrelitz, and WaterMe drinking water supply Rostock. Stralsund and Wolgast presented practical examples of successful inner-city development.
