In a recent announcement made by Andreas Völkel on Radio Siegen, the Heimatverein Alte Burg in Dreis-Tiefenbach has been awarded the prestigious Heimatpreis of the city of Netphen. This annual award recognises exceptional voluntary engagement with a local connection, as part of the state program “Heimat. Zukunft.”

The winning project, an interactive historical educational trail, is located in Dreis-Tiefenbach, Germany. This innovative initiative, featuring QR codes, provides visitors with a unique opportunity to delve into the town's rich history in an engaging and accessible manner. By leveraging modern technology, the trail aims to strengthen community bonds and enhance historical awareness.

The Heimatverein Alte Burg, led by Andreas Völkel, the 1st chairman, has created a trail that offers interesting details about Dreis-Tiefenbach's past. The trail can be explored independently at any time, or visitors can join a guided tour, scheduled for Saturday, 12th July, at 09:30, with the meeting point being the pedestrian bridge under the Kreisstraße 5 in Dreis-Tiefenbach.

Interestingly, the Bürgerverein Unglinghausen and the Museum Netpherland shared the second place in this year’s Heimatpreis. Each of these organisations received 1,250 euros as part of the award. Parts of the exhibition about Jakob Heinrich Schmick, a renowned natural scientist born on 27 August 1824 in Unglinghausen, have been permanently integrated into the Museum Netpherland. The exhibition, organised in celebration of Schmick's 200th birthday last year, is still viewable at the museum.

Schmick was active, among other places, in England. His work and life have been celebrated through the award-winning exhibition. The Heimatpreis of the city of Netphen continues to honour those who contribute significantly to the community through their dedication and projects.
