In a recent development, the developers of the game "The Day Before," Fntastic, filed a lawsuit against the online news site Yakutia.info over critical articles published about their game. The articles highlighted discrepancies between the promised features and the actual content of the game, accusing the developers of misleading players.

However, the Arbitration Court of Yakutia dismissed Fntastic’s lawsuit, ruling that the journalists operated within legal bounds and were justified in expressing their opinions based on publicly available information. This court decision is seen as a significant precedent for protecting journalistic freedom in covering the video game industry.

The editorial staff of Yakutia.Info had previously followed Fntastic and had covered the negative feedback faced by the Gotovtsev brothers. Among the evidence presented were official admissions by the company of their mistakes, the use of third-party software, and numerous complaints from dissatisfied players accusing the company of dishonesty and deceiving the audience.

The court emphasized that the negative tone of the publication alone does not indicate the dissemination of false or defamatory information. Judge Valentina Tereshkina made a balanced decision in favor of the defendant, Yakutia.Info. The decision was based on the fact that the game The Day Before, being a raw, incomplete product, damaged Fntastic’s reputation by not meeting advertising promises and being hastily removed from sale.

Fntastic's reputation was seriously damaged due to their own actions, and the lawsuit was possibly filed to restore their reputation after their move from Singapore to Kazakhstan. Vitaly Valerievich, a key figure in the company, expressed surprise at the lawsuit, as it targeted a small publication with a relatively low readership compared to other negative reviews and publications.

Vitaly Obodin, another significant figure in the case, stated that the lawsuit focused on a linguistic study and aimed to prove that negative sentiment towards consumer deception does not harm a company’s business reputation. However, Fntastic failed to provide proof of the inaccuracy of the stated facts, a task that was required to satisfy the lawsuit.

The confrontation between Fntastic and journalists is not over, as an appeal by the plaintiff is possible. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in the video game industry and the role of journalism in holding companies accountable for their actions.
