Kids' Bike Event Set to Debut in Lyons on August 23
First Annual Bike Rodeo Coming to Lyons, NY
Get ready, Lyons! The First Annual Bike Rodeo is set to take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at 54 Broad St., Lyons, right alongside the Lyons Farmers Market. This exciting event is a collaboration between Active People Healthy Wayne, Kiwanis Club of Eastern Wayne, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County, and Wayne County Public Health.
The Bike Rodeo is funded by the State of New York’s Creating Healthy Schools and Community Program and is aimed at teaching children essential cycling safety skills. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets, though a limited number of bikes and free helmets will be available at the event. Helmets are required for all participants.
Organizers of the Bike Rodeo hope the event will encourage families to embrace cycling as both a pastime and a viable means of transportation. The Town of Lyons is also expanding its bike-friendly infrastructure with new bike racks and a fix-it station, further promoting the use of bicycles in the community.
Melissa Kersten, program coordinator for Active People Healthy Wayne, stated that the event aims to spark love and interest in cycling among young riders. Free helmets will be provided by Wayne County Public Health while supplies last.
The Bike Rodeo promises to provide a safe and fun environment where children can learn and practice essential bike handling and safety skills. So, mark your calendars, dust off those bikes, and get ready for a day of fun and learning at the First Annual Bike Rodeo!
