Journalists from Nizhny Novgorod are welcome to join the initiative "School of Interethnic Journalism"

The School of Interethnic Journalism, a nationwide mentoring project, was established in 2010 and has been operating since 2015. Over the past ten years, more than three thousand young journalists have undergone special training in the field. The project, known as the "Interethnic Journalism School," is implemented by the Guild of Interethnic Journalism in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

In an era where knowing one's roots and respecting traditions has become trendy, the School of Interethnic Journalism aims to teach young people to raise ethnic topics delicately and competently in the media and blogs. The project has gained significant interest among young people over the years, with an increase of over ten-fold in interest in the ethnic theme among the youth.

The program consists of two modules: regional and federal. Priority is given to those who already work in the media, study journalism or related fields, or run their own blog. The classes will be held in a hybrid format (offline and online), making it accessible to media representatives aged 18 and above from all regions of the country.

For the regional module, participants will learn about interethnic journalism, state national policy, various media, and how to work with the interethnic theme in various journalistic formats. The classes for the regional module will take place in the fall-winter of 2025, from September to November 2025. The teachers for this module are leading experts in interethnic relations, journalists from regional and federal media, and representatives of state authorities.

The best students from the regional module, who have proven themselves, including on social media, will be admitted to the federal offline module in Moscow, scheduled for December 2025. The federal offline module will feature lectures by leading specialists, ethnographic expeditions, hackathons, and creative labs. However, the teachers for the offline module class for the Interethnic Journalism Program in winter 2025, held in Moscow, are not publicly specified at this time.

To participate in the competitive selection for the Interethnic Journalism School, applicants must send a motivational letter to [email protected] by September 20 and pass an interview, either offline or online. The project will have at least 16 regional schools by 2025, two in each of Russia's eight federal districts.

Upon completion of each stage, a certificate is issued. The School of Interethnic Journalism continues to foster a new generation of media representatives who are equipped to handle interethnic issues with sensitivity and competence, contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious society.
