IRA Expands Reach, Plans Political Party to Champion Animal Welfare
The Animal Intervention and Rescue Nucleus (IRA) is expanding its reach and influence. With over 60 collaborators and three operational delegations, it aims to extend its services to the Algarve by the end of the year. This growth coincides with plans to establish a political party, 'Protect', to champion animal welfare at the political level.
IRA's commitment to animal welfare is evident in its rigorous volunteer selection process. Applicants must undergo physical aptitude tests, attend trainings, and serve a probationary year. This ensures that only dedicated and capable individuals join the team. The organisation receives over 60 complaints daily, highlighting the pressing need for its services.
IRA's expertise extends beyond rescue operations. It collaborates with Civil Protection and has the 'legitimacy' to intervene in operation theaters, working in articulation with the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC). This allows it to respond swiftly and effectively to emergency situations. Recently, IRA rescued hundreds of animals in just six days during the fires this year, demonstrating its efficiency and dedication.
IRA's plans to create a political party, 'Protect', signal its intent to influence policy and legislation. The organisation's success in animal rescue and intervention, coupled with its stringent volunteer selection process, bodes well for its political aspirations. As IRA continues to grow, it remains committed to ensuring the welfare of animals and advocating for their rights.
