Holiday tree sales generate delightful income during springtime for some individuals
IKEA Donates €3,000 to Caritas Bike Workshop in Koblenz
IKEA, the renowned Swedish furniture retailer, has shown its commitment to sustainability by donating €3,000 to the Caritas bike workshop in Metternich, a district of Koblenz. The donation, corresponding to three euros for every Christmas tree sold, was handed over joyously at the workshop.
The workshop, run by CarMen GmbH, an inclusion company of the Koblenz Caritas, specializes in refurbishing used bicycles. These refurbished bikes are primarily distributed to individuals with lower incomes for a modest materials contribution. The workshop also welcomes other customers dedicated to promoting sustainability by choosing a refurbished bike. Its services extend to bicycle repairs, inspections, and e-bike maintenance.
Janet Wittmaack, the Market Manager of IKEA in Koblenz, expressed the company's support for the initiative, stating, "We are particularly pleased to support the project on-site with our donation. The bike workshop stands as a flagship project in terms of sustainability and environmental protection." She further praised the workshop's philosophy of providing employment opportunities to people with disabilities and offering job seekers a fresh career perspective.
In addition to bicycle mechanic master Steven Wackermann, the dedicated team of the bike workshop includes full-time employees and participants in labor market political measures. In collaboration with the job center, job seekers receive both practical work and intensive social-pedagogical and occupation-related support.
The donation from IKEA will be used to purchase new tool trollies, improving the working conditions for measure participants and student interns. CarMen Managing Director Andrea Steyven voiced her gratitude, saying, "We are grateful for IKEA's continued support and loyalty. The donation serves as a beautiful recognition of our inclusion work."

Such partnerships can provide meaningful opportunities for individuals and contribute to stronger, more resilient communities.
