In a picturesque summer day, the Kolping Family Bottrop-Eigen embarked on a memorable hike starting from the Liebfrauenkirche. Their destination was Halde Haniel, a significant landmark in Bottrop, Germany, known for its man-made hill rising above the surrounding landscape.

The hiking route led the group through Pius and made a pleasant stop at the fishing ponds in Grafenwald. The serene atmosphere of the ponds provided a refreshing addition to the journey, offering a moment of tranquility before continuing towards Halde Haniel.

Accompanied by the knowledgeable IG Halde Haniel, the group learned about the geological peculiarities of Halde Haniel. The spoil tip, a result of coal mining activities in the Ruhr area, showcases layers representing different mining phases, serving as valuable geological records of mining history. The IG Halde Haniel also explained the ongoing efforts for environmental protection, safety stabilization, erosion control, and vegetation management at Halde Haniel.

After exploring Halde Haniel, the group returned to the starting point, which was the Liebfrauenkirche, having covered approximately 15 km during the hike. Upon reaching the foot of Halde Haniel, they were treated to a close-up view of the Ibarrola-Stelen, a striking monument located next to the Prosper-Haniel mine.

The hike did not include any other stops apart from the one at Grafenwald, and the group did not hike towards any specific location after leaving Grafenwald. Despite the distance, the group did not encounter any issues while hiking, making for a successful and enjoyable outing.

The picturesque summer hike of the Kolping Family Bottrop-Eigen, led by IG Halde Haniel, provided an insightful journey through geological landscapes and outdoor-living spots. The route, which started from Liebfrauenkirche, stopped at Grafenwald's serene fishing ponds and ended at Halde Haniel, offering a unique home-and-garden perspective amidst the vast landscapes of Bottrop, Germany.
