Greifswald Opens Second DIY Bike Repair Workshop

Greifswald residents now have access to two public DIY bike repair workshops. The second workshop, following the 'help for self-help' principle, has opened at the neighborhood and community center SchwalBe every Friday from 4 to 6 PM. The first workshop is at the Klex youth center, operated by ADFC on Wednesdays from 4 PM.

The reopening of the DIY bicycle maintenance workshop in the Schönwalde II district at the SchwalBe was initiated and financed by local community organizations and municipal support programs. The new repair workshop was funded with 12,000 euros from the city and chosen through a citizen vote at the 'Day of Decision' last year. Both workshops aim to empower residents to maintain their bicycles independently, promoting sustainability and self-reliance. A paid staff member from the children's protection association is present at the SchwalBe workshop to provide assistance. Additionally, there's a freely accessible repair station at SchwalBe available at all times, allowing residents to perform basic repairs whenever needed.

Greifswald's two public DIY bike repair workshops, at Klex youth center and SchwalBe, offer residents convenient and sustainable solutions for bicycle maintenance. The SchwalBe workshop, opened with community support and municipal funding, provides a dedicated space and assistance for residents to keep their bicycles in good condition.
