Greessen rejoices over gold medal win: Ways individuals have redefined their locality

Nestled in the Circle Waldshut, the picturesque village of Klettgau-Grießen has made headlines after winning the "Our Village Has a Future" competition at the state level. With a population of 2,000 inhabitants, this Baden-Württemberg village has captured the attention of the nation with its remarkable achievements in community development, sustainability, and revitalization.

The success story of Klettgau-Grießen began with the collaborative efforts of its residents, who came together to breathe new life into the village. One of the most significant transformations was the revival of the old village pub, "Linden," which had been abandoned for over 30 years. The residents formed a cooperative to buy and renovate the pub, with one member even residing in Berlin. Today, "Linden" stands as a bustling meeting place for various groups, hosting over 60 events in a year.

The village's success can also be attributed to the thriving neighborhood association "Idea," which is gaining more members due to the revitalized club life. Rosemarie Hartmann, the chairwoman of "Idea," speaks of a strong sense of community in Klettgau-Grießen. The association has also played a crucial role in the growth of the "Future Workshop" group, which was founded by several women after the corona pandemic. With over 40 members, the group is dedicated to improving the village and has even been granted a vacant house by the municipality, which now houses a clothing chamber.

Klettgau-Grießen is known for its livability and the numerous projects initiated by its residents. The village has become a hub for various groups, fostering interaction between locals and newcomers. New apartment buildings stand next to old farmhouses, creating a unique blend of modernity and tradition. The village's new medical care center, located in the former town hall and employing four doctors, is testament to the community's commitment to providing essential services for its residents.

The village's achievements have not gone unnoticed. Klettgau-Grießen will represent Baden-Württemberg in the federal finals of "Our Village Has a Future" next year. The villagers, led by the core team members Kathrin Kern and Katharina Hörnstein, have many plans for the future, aiming to continue their momentum and build upon the success they have already achieved.

The celebration after the victory on the church square featured homemade muffins, champagne, and apple juice, reflecting the warm, welcoming spirit of Klettgau-Grießen. The village's story is a testament to the power of community collaboration and the transformative impact it can have on rural development.

Klettgau-Grießen's resurgence is evident in its home-and-garden transformations, such as the revitalization of the old village pub, "Linden," now a bustling meeting place. The village's lifestyle improvement is also mirrored in the thriving neighborhood association "Idea," which plays a pivotal role in fostering community development and supporting initiatives like the Future Workshop.
