Garden Furniture Trends for Summer 2025: Here's What's Outdated and What's Hot, Revealing the Replacing Pieces

In the world of garden design, 2025 is set to see a significant transformation in garden furniture styles. As Lena Gierasinska, Head of Product & Displays at Barker and Stonehouse, has observed, there's a growing trend for customers to bring their indoor tastes outside.

One style that's losing favour is the rigid, geometric, and straight-lined designs. Furniture with sharp lines and angular forms is being replaced by organic, curved silhouettes that mirror natural forms, creating a softer and more natural aesthetic in outdoor spaces.

Overly neutral or monochrome palettes are also on their way out, with earth-inspired and bold vibrant colours taking centre stage. Warm terracotta, muted greens, sandy beiges, charcoal greys, and jewel tones like emerald and sapphire are replacing plain neutrals, adding warmth and interest to garden settings.

Synthetic and non-eco-friendly materials are also falling out of favour as eco-consciousness rises. Natural and sustainable materials such as rattan, bamboo, stone, linen, clay, recycled plastics, responsibly sourced wood, and resin wicker paired with teak or powder-coated aluminum are becoming more popular.

Minimal textures are being replaced by textural and woven elements, with wicker and resin wicker reinterpretations in modern colours, combined with woven textures to add visual and tactile richness.

Non-modular, fixed furniture is being replaced by modular and performance upholstery, offering adaptability and comfort for outdoor use.

The trend towards connecting with nature extends beyond materials and shapes to colour palettes and textural contrasts, aiming to integrate outdoor furniture harmoniously with the environment. Sustainability is a major influence, with outdoor furniture increasingly designed to last and minimise environmental impact.

While natural stone and statement stone pieces are rising indoors, outdoor furniture is focusing more on natural textures and earth tones to create a sense of luxury and comfort in exterior spaces.

One notable departure from the garden furniture scene is the egg chair style of seating. As Alex Bridgman of Bridgman states, overly sculptural 'egg' chairs and pod seating are starting to feel more novelty than necessity. Andrew White of Harbour Lifestyle agrees, stating that the egg chair has started to fall out of favour and is being replaced by pieces that are both comfortable and easy to work into different layouts.

Comfortable lounging furniture, particularly L-shaped sofas, is a trend that's here to stay. Statement armchairs and modular pieces that offer both style and substance are being preferred by discerning homeowners.

Garden furniture colours are shifting away from safe shades like grey and beige towards more vibrant shades, with green continuing to be a firm favourite. Eye-catching designs like colourful tiled coffee tables and faux marble drinks tables are infusing gardens with colour and personality.

Rechargeable table lamps, floor lamps, rugs, and cushions are softening the garden scene and providing comfort to encourage longer stays in the garden.

In summary, garden furniture styles featuring straight lines, plain neutrals, and synthetic materials are being replaced by organic shapes, earth tones and jewel hues, natural and sustainable materials, textured weaves, and modular designs that emphasise comfort and environmental responsibility.
