Future Vision for Dusseldorf's Lake Unveiled in Detailed Study

The Unterbacher See, a popular destination for hiking, cycling, and outdoor adventure activities, is set for potential changes. HJPplan+ city planners and architects have analyzed the lake, its offerings, and prerequisites, with the goal of developing a sustainable and long-term viable guiding principle for its future development [1].

The Unterbacher See, renowned for its natural attractions and diverse recreational activities, is cherished by locals and visitors alike. Key offerings include a high ropes course, canoeing, archery, floating construction, and team training activities, providing a wealth of options for active visitors [1]. Amenities such as weather shelters, benches, and picnic spots along cycling and hiking routes, as well as camping facilities like Campingplatz Unterbacher See, contribute to the area's appeal [2].

The development concept aims to strike a balance between preserving the lake's natural beauty and enhancing recreational opportunities. This includes maintaining hiking and cycling trails while expanding adventure offerings like rope courses and water sports to attract families and outdoor enthusiasts without overdeveloping the area [1].

The general assembly of the Unterbacher See association will decide which aspects of the concept study should be transferred into a planning procedure. Approval procedures still need to be completed before any changes occur at the lake [2]. The results of the workshop, which took place in the administration building of the USee, are being presented now [3].

Communication among the lake residents and communication to the outside world was frequently mentioned as an area that needs improvement. A better infrastructure was suggested for the Unterbacher See, including modern bike racks that fit today's bikes, especially e-bikes [4].

Central questions addressed in the workshop included what offers current users wish for the future, what infrastructure should be around and on the lake, fostering participation, community, and awareness, and the role of nature and landscape protection [5]. Poster boards were used to collect ideas, suggestions, and inputs during the workshop.

The project team for the workshop included Frank Pflüger, Jochen Kral, Benjamin Zwack, Karsten Palme, Tina Hörmann, and Silvia Beretta [6]. The final concept study for the development of Unterbacher See will be presented in September [3]. By developing a sustainable plan, the team hopes to ensure the Unterbacher See remains a beloved destination for generations to come.

The development concept for the Unterbacher See aims to enhance the lifestyle experience by preserving its natural beauty and expanding outdoor-living activities, such as improving adventure offerings and the home-and-garden facilities. The general assembly of the Unterbacher See association will consider incorporating modern infrastructure, like e-bike racks, to foster better communication among the lake residents and external visitors.
