Friend's Chicken Killed by Pet Dog, Seeking Appropriate Apology from Hostess Sophia Money-Coutts
Sophia Money-Coutts, a renowned freelance features writer and author, found herself in an unusual predicament during a recent outing in Berkshire. The host of the gathering was Taki, who resides in Windsor, and the guest of honour was his dog, Dennis, an 18-month-old terrier known for his mischievous ways.
Money-Coutts, who has written for esteemed publications such as The Standard, The Sunday Telegraph, The Times, and Tatler, where she previously served as the Features Director, had spent time researching 'chicken recipes' online. In an attempt to make amends for any potential misdemeanours Dennis might have caused, she decided to buy two porcelain mugs as gifts.
One mug, adorned with various types of 'tits' (birds), boasted the word 'tits' in large letters. The other mug, titled 'peckers', featured different types of peckers. Money-Coutts hoped these quirky gifts would bring a smile to her friend's mother's face.
However, the dinner with the host family felt awkward due to an incident involving Dennis and the chickens. In a turn of events, Dennis managed to enter the chicken pen and attacked one of the birds, resulting in injury.
Money-Coutts felt mortified about the incident and, upon reflection, decided that giving chicken breast recipes as an apology might have been insensitive. Instead, she sent an apology card, which included a promise from Dennis to be better behaved in the future.
Despite the awkward incident, Money-Coutts has six books to her name and continues to make a significant impact in the world of journalism. Her most recent appearance was on the our platform Frontispiece in 2022.
