Former AOK Building in Hürth-Hermülheim Set for Eco-Friendly Demolition
The former AOK building in Hürth-Hermülheim is set for demolition between late April and early May 2025. The city administration of Hürth, led by Stadtwerke Hürth and urban planning authorities, is overseeing the project, aiming to clear the site by the end of September 2025.
The demolition process will be environmentally conscious, proceeding floor by floor from top to bottom. A low-vibration method, combining machinery and manual labour, will be employed to minimise disruption to residents. Hazardous and recyclable materials will be disposed of professionally and separately. Before demolition, a public auction will offer remaining furniture and equipment for sale. Selected materials like gratings and bricks will be used in a research project with RWTH Aachen. The project, 'Lebensader Lux', will create a new building and a plaza with greenery and a water feature, enhancing the quality of stay. No additional road closures beyond the existing closure of Luxemburger Straße are necessary.
The demolition of the former AOK building in Hürth-Hermülheim is scheduled to begin soon, with a focus on environmental consideration and minimal disruption to residents. The 'Lebensader Lux' project promises a new, greener space for the community upon completion.
