Fishermen in Schanz lay down their spears

August's conclusion for fishermen in Augsburg brings an unusual twist. Rather than the usual tournament on the Danube, a farewell celebration features a modest competition scheduled for August 22, 2025 at 5:30 PM, situated along the Danube riverbank adjacent to Klenzepark.

The traditional Bavarian club, Schanzer Fischerstecher, is set to host a unique event on August 22, 2025, at 5:30 PM near the Donaubühne close to the Klenzepark. This lance-less tournament, a departure from the traditional Fischerstechen sport, aims to bring a taste of the Fischerstecher atmosphere to the Danube in Ingolstadt.

The Schanzer Fischerstecher's website (www.schanzerfischerstecher.de/turnier-2025) provides more details about the disciplines and the schedule of the tournament. Each boat in the tournament will have only two people - a coxswain and a rower. The event is designed to maintain sporting competition despite the absence of traditional lances, with three creative disciplines.

The Schanzer Fischerstecher have decided to hold a small competition instead of the traditional tournament on the Danube. This decision is in line with the club's aim to preserve the values, tradition, and customs of the Fischerstechen. The Schanzer Fischerstecher are known for their participation in national and international competitions and events on and along the Danube.

The Fischerstechen sport, with a 500-year tradition in Bavaria, requires both strength and skill. In the traditional sport, two Zillen boats race towards each other, with stechers trying to push the opponent into the water using a lance. However, the lance-less tournament will offer a new and exciting twist to this age-old tradition.

The Schanzer Fischerstecher's season finale will be followed by a cozy get-together on the Danube beach. The event is supported by Nordbräu and Jesuitenquelle.

The Fischerstechen has a rich history in Ingolstadt, with over 300 years of documentation. The Schanzer Fischerstecher's event this year marks a special way to celebrate their winter break.
