Firefighters for children, nicknamed "Fire Falcons," actively engage in battles against flames within protective shells
The Meihern "Fire Falcons" children's fire department has recently introduced a new set of uniforms, designed with safety, identity, comfort, and practicality in mind. The uniforms, sponsored by the city of Riedenburg, were unveiled at a handover ceremony held at the fire station in Deising.
The new uniforms are intended to provide protection suitable for children participating in fire safety education, drills, and community events. They are not fireproof, as stated by one of the members, but they are made of durable cotton and feature lightweight, breathable, and flame-retardant fabrics to ensure the children's safety.
Wearing a distinct uniform helps foster a sense of belonging, pride, and seriousness about their role as junior firefighters. The "Fire Falcons" uniforms incorporate elements that educate children on fire safety and responsibility, making the experience immersive and engaging. The design includes bright colours, usually reflective or high-visibility accents, and the "Fire Falcon" lettering on the back, attached with Velcro, to ensure easy removal and replacement when necessary.
The uniforms are tailored for children's sizes and activities, allowing ease of movement and adaptability for various weather conditions. They also come with practical features such as pockets designed for small tools or educational materials. Basic protective gear such as helmets, gloves, and sturdy boots adapted for young users are also included.
Each "Fire Falcon" member is issued a uniform set upon joining, tailored to their size and role within the junior fire department. Children are taught how to properly wear, use, and care for their uniforms to instill responsibility. Uniforms are typically collected for professional cleaning or washed under supervision to maintain hygiene and fabric integrity. Regular checks are conducted by adult supervisors to ensure uniforms remain in good condition and are safe to use.
The uniforms have been well-received by the "Fire Falcons". Ten-year-old Susanne Wittl expressed her pride in wearing the uniform, while six-year-old Lena didn't want to take off the uniform right away. However, Lena mentioned that the uniform is heavier than a T-shirt, affecting her jumping ability.
Commander Simon Meier thanked Mayor Thomas Zehetbauer for the sponsorship, recognising the significant contribution the uniforms make to the sense of belonging among the "Fire Falcons" and the valuable investment they represent. The city of Riedenburg is proud to support the next generation of fire safety advocates.
The new uniforms, tailored for the "Fire Falcons," encompass home-and-garden elements in their design, featuring bright colors and reflective accents to help with safety in their lifestyle as junior firefighters in Riedenburg. The uniforms come equipped with practical home-and-garden features such as pockets for small tools or educational materials, mirroring the practicality and utility found in home-and-garden settings.
