Figure Theatre Festival Celebrates Its 17th Edition from September 26th to 28th in Greifswalder

Greifswald, Germany, is set to host the 17th Figurentheaterfestival FANTAKEL from September 26th to 28th, 2025. This three-day event in the city centre promises a wide range of events, including plays, exhibitions, and an interactive program for all ages.

The festival will kick off on Friday, September 26th, at 5:00 PM, with "At the Fire Station, the Coffee Gets Cold" by Weites Theater, suitable for children aged three and above, at St. Spiritus. The opening event is followed by a series of performances designed to captivate the imagination of young and old alike.

For the younger audience, there are several offerings. Theater Randfigur will present "The Princess and the Pea" for children aged four and above at Greifswald's city library on Saturday, September 27th, at 10:30 AM. At the same time, TheaterGeist will present "Alles Familie," a biographical puppet theater piece for children aged five and above, at 3:00 PM in St. Spiritus. On Sunday, Theater Maskotte will perform "Thumbelina" for children aged five and above at 3:00 PM, and at 11:00 AM, Seebühne Hiddensee will perform "Little Red Riding Hood or the Power of Destiny" for children aged three and above.

For the older audience, there are more thought-provoking performances. The performance "Ernst Barlach - Are We in Good Times?" is suitable for teenagers aged 12 and above and adults. This production, combining acting, music, dance, and pantomime, transports the audience into the increasingly oppressive world of Ernst Barlach, using original texts from Barlach's letters and writings. The performance is a joint production of Musik Theater Cammin and Theater mit Puppen.

The festival will conclude at 7:00 PM on Sunday with "The Nightingale" by Seebühne Hiddensee.

In addition to the performances, the festival offers an interactive program on Saturday, September 27th, featuring creative crafting, a participatory orchestra, button-making workshop, face painting, a lucky wheel, coffee and cake, and more, all taking place on the inner courtyard.

Furthermore, an exhibition celebrating Hans Christian Andersen's anniversary will be held at the Koeppenhaus from September 12th to October 24th, 2025, and will be free of charge and open daily. The exhibition titled "Children's drawings of fairy tale motifs by Hans Christian Andersen" will also be on display at the Soziokulturelles Zentrum St. Spiritus during the FANTAKEL.
