Faculty and staff artists from independent pursuits have been chosen to exhibit their work at the Everson Museum of Art this autumn under the title 'On My Own Time'.
The Everson Museum of Art is currently hosting an exhibition featuring artwork from Syracuse University faculty and staff, as part of the university's annual participation in the "On My Own Time" program. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the program, which is spearheaded by CNY Arts and highlights the university's commitment to community partnerships and unique employer culture.
Six artists from this year's on-campus exhibition were selected to display their art at the "On My Own Time" finale exhibition at the Everson Museum of Art. These artists include Margaret Voss, Margaret Luther, Shikha Nangia, Austine Emifoniye, Jenny Saluti, and Marie Luther.
Margaret Voss finds this recognition extra special as she made the piece of jewelry she entered, "A Rococo Homage," for a friend of her daughter to wear to her junior prom. The jewelry, now displayed at the Everson Museum of Art, marks a departure from Voss's usual painting.
Margaret Luther, another participating artist, considers it an honor to have her artwork displayed in the Everson Museum of Art. Her piece, "Two Water Lilies," is one of the artworks on display. Creating art, Luther finds, is rewarding as it involves making decisions and overcoming challenges.
Shikha Nangia's mixed media artwork, "See How Brain Protects Itself from Intruders," is also part of the Everson Museum of Art exhibition. Nangia's artwork is a testament to the diverse range of artwork submitted this year, which included drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, glasswork, jewelry making, printmaking, fiber art, computer art, and collage/assemblage.
Austine Emifoniye's metalwork artwork, "Royal Procession," was also selected for the Everson Museum of Art exhibition. The exhibition, which runs from October 11 to November 7, 2021, also includes Jenny Saluti's computer art artwork, "Westie Holiday Surface Design."
Photos of the artists and their artwork are available, including Margaret Butler with her piece "Birds in Winter," Margaret Luther with "Two Water Lilies," Shikha Nangia with "See How Brain Protects Itself from Intruders," Austine Emifoniye with "Royal Procession," Margaret Voss with "A Rococo Homage," and Jenny Saluti with "Westie Holiday Surface Design."
The entire campus community is invited to visit the Everson Museum this fall to see the artwork of the University's winners and other local organizations on display. Over the years, more than 1,800 faculty and staff from Syracuse University have exhibited their art in "On My Own Time."
Notably, Margaret Butler won the People's Choice Award for her artwork "Birds in Winter." Syracuse University's participation in "On My Own Time" is a testament to the university's long-standing tradition of supporting the arts and fostering creativity among its faculty and staff.
