Exploring Dormagen's Landmarks: Journey from Rhine Tower to Air-raid Shelter

On the 14th of September, Dormagen will be opening its doors to a day of cultural exploration and historical discovery as part of the nationwide Heritage Day event. www.eventbrite/heritage-day has all the details you need to plan your date.

The iconic Rheinturm in Zons, a landmark of the city, will reopen its doors for guided tours. You can book your spot online at www.google-sites.com/tourrheinturm.

The theme for this year's Heritage Day is "Priceless: Irreplaceable or Invaluable?". This question will guide the various activities and tours that are part of the day's programme.

Among the sites to visit are the Roman UNESCO World Heritage site, Knechtsteden monastery, the central cemetery in Dormagen, the Jewish cemetery in the Zonser heath, the Bunker Memorial Site in the Raphaelshaus, historic Friedestrom castle, district museum, Rheintorkapelle, windmill, and air raid shelter at the Feldtor.

A highlight of the day will be a guided tour of the imperial-bavarian army camp of 1642, led by Jost Auler, Peter Bruns, and Volker Kuhlmann.

The city administration of Dormagen is participating in the event, with numerous monument owners and volunteers offering a varied programme of activities on site.

Gerd Bock, the new honorary monument care officer, will be available for advisory services from 12 to 2 p.m. under the chestnut tree on Mühlenstraße in the Zons old town. His office hours are also offered every first Thursday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Dormagen administrative building.

The day's festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. at Rheinstraße 1 in Zons, with the opening event details to be announced soon.

This event is part of the initiative by the "German Foundation for Monument Protection", and participation in all events is free. So, mark your my activity and join us for a day of learning, discovery, and celebration of Dormagen's rich heritage.
