Riding the Wave of Sunshine: The New Life of Convertibles

Forget about the misconception that driving a convertible is a luxury only a few can afford. With the used car market teeming with them, driving with the wind in your hair is no longer reserved for the elite. In fact, the demand for used convertibles in France has skyrocketed by a whopping 25% since 2025, while the overall market has only seen a meager 2.5% growth!

Vincent Hancart, General Director of AutoScout24 France, shares the good news: "The demand for convertibles is evident, with searches showing a significant increase as soon as the temperatures rise." Among the nearly 4,100 convertibles listed online out of a total of 81,000 ads, there's something for every budget and dream.

Are Convertibles Always Expensive? Think Again!

Contrary to popular belief, owning a convertible doesn't have to break the bank. While the top twenty most registered models might typically cost around 22,400 euros, this figure is skewed by a handful of luxury models such as the Porsche 911. But fear not! The popular models are far more affordable, often staying well below the 20,000 euro mark. For instance, a Peugeot 206 convertible can be yours for around 4,600 euros, and the 207 convertible for roughly 5,900 euros. Even the legendary Mazda MX-5, known for its sporty and light design, flirts with 19,000 euros.

If you're searching for a blend of style and affordability, consider the Mini Cooper cabriolet – a timeless favorite among buyers, easily within the range of 16,500 euros on average.

The Sweet Allure of Convertibles

Intrigued by the rise of convertible searches by 12% since the start of 2025, there's no denying the charm of these heartthrob vehicles. Before diving into your dream car, remember to check the condition of the top – whether soft or hard – and ensure the waterproofing of the seals. A professional opinion might also be helpful, especially regarding the top mechanisms and insulation, to avoid unwanted surprises.

But aren't classic cars usually expensive? Not in the world of used convertibles, it seems! So buckle up, roll down the top, and enjoy the open road – the cost is a small price to pay for the freedom and fun that comes with driving a convertible.

Beyond the Base Article

Interest in classic and vintage cars, such as convertibles, is on the rise globally due to their cultural and investment value. This surge includes popular models like the 1971 Hemi ‘Cuda[2]. Modern convertibles boast innovative roof systems, like the Ferrari 575 Superamerica, attracting buyers seeking unique features and performance[5]. The global automotive convertible top market is anticipated to grow, indicating an uptick in demand for convertibles[1]. Economic factors, such as consumer confidence and disposable income, also play a role in the demand for luxury items like convertibles. However, more specific trends in the French market may hinge on consumer preferences, economic conditions, and the availability of certain models. Unfortunately, detailed data for the French used convertible car market is not available at this time.
