Exhibition Highlights: February 2016 Edition
In the heart of St. Petersburg, Florida, the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement (MAACM) stands as a testament to the beauty and craftsmanship of the Arts and Crafts Movement (A&C). Established in 2018, the museum has become the permanent home for the Two Red Roses Foundation's comprehensive A&C collection, which was initially showcased at the Collector's Showcase.
Rudy Ciccarello, a successful entrepreneur and A&C enthusiast, began his dream of building a museum for his collection nearly ten years ago. His dream materialised when the Collector's Showcase, sponsored in 2016, provided an opportunity for the public to view his extensive American Arts and Crafts collection. The event featured works from notable A&C Movement artists, offering scholars and enthusiasts a unique insight into the history of the period.
The Collector's Showcase was a significant step towards the permanent display of Rudy Ciccarello's A&C collection at the MAACM. Seven catalogs, commissioned by the foremost scholars of the period, were produced to provide a written history of the collection. These catalogs offer a comprehensive understanding of the artistry, history, and significance of each piece in the collection.
Construction on the MAACM is scheduled to begin this spring, with the museum expected to expand its offerings significantly. The museum, already located at 355 4th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33701, has been open since November 2021. Visitors can contact the museum directly at (727)-440-4859 for more information or events like the Morning Pour and Tour.
The Two Red Roses Foundation, established to safeguard Rudy Ciccarello's A&C collection, has amassed one of the largest collections of important examples of the A&C Movement. The collection includes furniture, tiles, pottery, metalwork, and fine and decorative arts, providing a comprehensive view of the period's artistry.
As the MAACM continues to grow and evolve, it serves as a beacon for A&C enthusiasts and a valuable resource for those interested in learning more about this significant period in American history. In Rudy Ciccarello's pursuit of a museum for his American Arts and Crafts collection, the Collector's Showcase event in 2016 provided a platform to exhibit his extensive work. With the arrival of the Two Red Roses Foundation's comprehensive collection at the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement (MAACM), home-and-garden pieces showcased alongside lifestyle artifacts, such as furniture, tiles, pottery, metalwork, and fine and decorative arts, evolved from temporary displays to permanent fixtures within the museum.
