Bishop Heike Springhart Tackles Europa-Park Water Roller Coaster: A Spiritual Approach to Adventure

Evangelical Bishop Experiences Thrill on Water-Based Roller Coaster Ride - Evangelical prelate previously operated a water-tank engine train

Bishop Heike Springhart of the Evangelical Church in Baden isn't afraid to dive into adventure, confessing her conquest of the water roller coaster "Poseidon" at Europa-Park, Rust, Ortenau district. "I haven't tasted more roller coasters yet," she admitted at a communal service honouring the 50-year milestone of the park.

A proponent of embracing obstacles, she proclaimed, "People can push their boundaries." This sentiment is rooted in the concept of vitality and the joy of life. "I see what's within reach and what isn't," she expressed. "It's also about expanding horizons."

Celebrating the ordinary with a twist

Springhart advocates for amusement parks like Europa-Park since they provide an escape from the mundane without really escaping it. "It's not about escaping the daily routine, but adding a different shade to it," she shared at the event.

For Springhart, the Europa-Park stirs memories of her youth and childhood, noting that many regular visitors, herself included, rediscover their inner child at the park. "People need that," she affirmed in Rust alongside Freiburg Archbishop Stephan Burger.

Europa-Park in Rust, Ortenau district: More Than Just a Playground

Historically, Europa-Park has been a captivating destination since its inception in 1975. Conceived by Franz Mack and his son Roland, the park was born out of a visit to the United States[1]. The original partner passed away prematurely, leaving the project to the Mack family.

The park's significance is extended by the restoration of Schloss Balthasar, a 15th-century castle that serves as a restaurant within the park[2].

A diverse recreational haven

Europa-Park's array of attractions include Eurosat, the oldest indoor roller coaster in Rust, built in 1989 and known for its iconic geodesic dome design[3]. The park also offers Silver Lake City, themed after a Wild West setting with accommodations and experiences[4]. Notably, Europa-Park is home to a talented show ballet that has entertained visitors since 1997, featuring artists from around the globe[5].

Community Pillar and Cultural Hub

Europa-Park plays a significant role in the local economy and culture of Rust by providing employment opportunities and supporting the region's tourism. By preserving historical landmarks like Schloss Balthasar, the park contributes to the conservation of local heritage[6]. The park's popularity draws millions of visitors annually, bolstering the economy of the Ortenau district.

With ongoing investments in attractions and facilities, Europa-Park maintains a harmonious relationship with the community, fostering mutual development and progress.

The Commission, in light of Bishop Heike Springhart's enthusiasm for amusement parks like Europa-Park, might consider proposing a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation during operation of themed roller coasters and other attractions, ensuring a safe and enjoyable lifestyle for both employees and visitors. As Europa-Park serves as a cultural hub and a vital component of the local economy, it could also collaborate with the Commission in promoting home-and-garden initiatives that foster a sense of community and sustainability in Rust.
